What is the SPOT-MAS test?
SPOT-MAS is a blood test made by Gene Solutions. Tumours release tiny pieces of DNA into the blood
(called ctDNA). SPOT-MAS looks for these pieces to find early signs of 10 common cancers, often before any
symptoms appear.
How much does the SPOT-MAS test cost in Bangkok?
At MedEx, SPOT-MAS 10 costs 17,500 THB (about 521 USD or 458 EUR) as a launch price until 31 December
2026. The normal price is 27,500 THB. The price includes VAT and you pay in Thai baht.
What is included in the 17,500 THB price?
Everything you need: the doctor consultation, the blood draw at a MedEx clinic, the lab test, your
digital report and a doctor explaining your results. There are no hidden fees. If you want a nurse to come
to your hotel, condo or home instead, home collection costs 750 THB.
Which cancers does SPOT-MAS check for?
Breast, lung, colorectal (bowel), liver and bile duct, stomach, ovarian, pancreatic, oesophageal (food
pipe), endometrial (womb lining) and head and neck cancers. Seven of these ten have no standard screening
test today.
Is SPOT-MAS for men and women?
Yes. SPOT-MAS 10 is for both men and women. Ovarian and endometrial cancer only apply to women, and men
are screened for all the other cancers on the list, including lung, colorectal, liver, stomach,
pancreatic, oesophageal and head and neck cancer.
Do I need to fast before the SPOT-MAS test?
No. You don't need to fast or prepare. You can eat, drink and take your usual medicines as normal.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
No. You can book SPOT-MAS directly with MedEx. No referral letter is needed.
Does SPOT-MAS diagnose cancer?
No. SPOT-MAS is a screening test. A positive result means a cancer signal was found and your doctor will
recommend follow-up tests, such as a scan, to confirm. A negative result lowers concern but does not fully
rule out cancer.
How accurate is SPOT-MAS?
Reported figures are 95.9% specificity (a low chance of false alarms) and 78.1% sensitivity. The test was
clinically validated in Asia in a study of 9,024 participants.
Who should take the SPOT-MAS test?
Adults aged 40 and over, and adults 18 and over with higher risk, such as a family history of cancer,
smoking, regular alcohol use or work around chemicals. It is also a good add-on to your yearly health
check.
How long does it take to get SPOT-MAS results?
Results take 7 to 10 days. MedEx sends your report digitally, so you can receive it even after you leave
Thailand.
Where does my blood sample go, and is my data private?
Your sample is sent to an accredited genomics laboratory outside Thailand for analysis. Your personal
information and results are kept private and are only shared with you and your MedEx doctor.
Does insurance cover the SPOT-MAS test?
No. SPOT-MAS is not covered by insurance at the moment. MedEx provides an official receipt for your
records.
Can I get a refund or change my appointment?
Yes. You can change your appointment, and refunds are available if your booking meets the conditions of
the MedEx refund policy. Contact our team on
WhatsApp or call 02-544-0001 for help.
Can tourists and expats take SPOT-MAS in Thailand?
Yes. MedEx has English-speaking staff. You can give blood at a MedEx clinic in Bangkok (BTS Nana or BTS
Phra Khanong) or Chiang Mai, or book a nurse to your hotel, condo or home in Bangkok for 750 THB.
How often should I do the SPOT-MAS test?
Gene Solutions recommends repeating it once a year, together with the routine screening your doctor
recommends.
What does an intermediate result mean?
An intermediate result means a weak signal was found, below the level of a positive result. There is not
enough evidence of cancer. You should repeat the test within 6 months, and a MedEx doctor will explain the
result and advise if other checks are needed.
What happens if my SPOT-MAS result is positive?
Your report may show one or two likely places in the body where the signal comes from. A doctor will
explain the result and recommend confirmation tests. MedEx can book these for you at partner hospitals in
Thailand.
