Stool tests use an at-home kit you receive by courier — you collect a small sample privately and return it via prepaid pickup. Oral tests use a saliva or cheek swab. Vaginal tests use a self-administered swab with clear instructions. A MedEx nurse can also assist with collection at home or in clinic if preferred.

Most reports are ready within 7–14 days from when the lab receives your sample. The Vaginal Microbiome Profile is typically the fastest at 5–7 days, while the Advanced Microbiome with sensitivity testing takes the longest at around 14 days. You'll be notified by email and through your patient portal.

Yes. For stool tests, avoid antibiotics, antifungals and probiotics for 2–4 weeks before testing unless your doctor advises otherwise. For oral tests, avoid eating, drinking, smoking or brushing for 1 hour beforehand. For vaginal tests, avoid intercourse, douching or vaginal medications for 24–48 hours prior. Detailed prep instructions are sent with your kit.
