Is this for you?

Recurring symptoms deserve a clearer starting point.

This profile may be helpful when symptoms appear soon after eating, touching or inhaling a possible trigger.

ImportantA positive IgE result shows sensitisation. Your symptoms and medical history are still essential for diagnosis.
Common signs

When allergy testing may help

◌

Nose & breathing

Sneezing, itchy or runny nose, congestion, chronic cough, wheezing or shortness of breath.

◇

Skin

Hives, itching, swelling, redness, eczema-like flares or unexplained rashes.

◎

Eyes

Itchy, red or watery eyes, irritation, swollen eyelids or sensitivity to light.

∿

Digestive

Abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhoea that follows a suspected food exposure.

Inside the profile

Wide coverage, organised for action.

The panel groups common food and environmental triggers so you and your clinician can review patterns without ordering dozens of separate tests.

102

report items in one comprehensive IgE allergy profile

51 food allergens + 49 environmental allergens
plus Total IgE and a CCD marker
51

Food allergens across egg, dairy, grains, fruit, nuts, meat, fish and shellfish.

49

Environmental allergens including mites, moulds, pollens, animals, insects and latex.

Total IgE

A broad marker used alongside specific results and clinical history.

CCD

Helps highlight a source of plant and insect cross-reactivity that can complicate interpretation.

Approved panel wording: 100 named allergens + Total IgE + CCD marker = 102 report items.

Understanding results

A clear class scale—not a diagnosis by itself.

The laboratory reports specific IgE concentration and a class from 0 to 6. Higher classes indicate more specific IgE, but do not by themselves predict how severe a reaction will be.

Class Specific IgE (IU/mL) Catalogue interpretation
0 0.00–0.34 Not detected
1 0.35–0.69 Low
2 0.70–3.49 Low; symptoms may occur
3 3.50–17.49 Significant
4 17.50–49.99 Moderately high
5 50.00–100.00 High
6 >100 Very high

What to do with your report

  • Match positive results to real symptoms, exposure timing and your medical history.
  • Do not remove major foods from your diet solely because of a low positive result—especially foods you eat without symptoms.
  • Use the CCD marker as supporting context when several plant or insect-related items appear positive.
  • Ask a clinician whether targeted follow-up, a skin-prick test or specialist-supervised challenge is appropriate.
Emergency: Difficulty breathing, throat swelling, faintness or symptoms affecting several body systems may indicate anaphylaxis. Seek emergency care immediately.

Reference bands above reproduce the supplied SGTi guide. Final interpretation should follow the laboratory report and clinical advice.

Set the right expectation

What this test can—and cannot—tell you.

This test can help

  • Measure specific IgE to the listed allergens
  • Support investigation of immediate-type allergic reactions
  • Identify patterns worth discussing with a clinician
  • Provide Total IgE and CCD context

This test cannot do alone

  • Confirm a clinical allergy without matching symptoms
  • Measure non-IgE food intolerance or every delayed reaction
  • Predict the exact severity of a future reaction
  • Replace urgent care, medical examination or supervised challenge testing

Frequently asked questions

Before you book

No fasting is required for this allergy blood test. If you book other blood tests at the same time, their preparation instructions may be different.

No. This profile measures allergen-specific IgE associated with immediate-type allergic reactions. It is not an IgG food sensitivity or intolerance panel.

Not by itself. A positive result indicates sensitisation and must be interpreted with your symptoms, exposure history and clinical assessment. Broad screening can produce positive results that are not clinically relevant.

Cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants are sugar structures found in many plant and insect proteins. IgE to CCDs can contribute to broad or misleading positive patterns, so the marker provides useful interpretation context.

Blood allergy testing can be used in children, but appropriateness and interpretation depend on age, symptoms and clinical history. A parent or guardian should discuss testing with MedEx or the child’s clinician.

Contact MedEx to choose a suitable clinic or ask about home or hotel collection. Availability and any home-visit fee are confirmed at booking.

The laboratory turnaround time is 2 days. Results are delivered securely once the analysis is complete.
