Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose our Post-Paternity Test?

Choosing the right provider is crucial for sensitive testing. Our Post-Paternity test offers:

  • Highest Accuracy: We guarantee an accuracy rate of over 99.9999%, ensuring definitive results.
  • Legal Admissibility: Results are legally binding and accepted for court cases, immigration, and child custody.
  • Accredited Laboratory: Testing is performed by a laboratory accredited by the Bureau of Laboratory Quality Standards, Ministry of Public Health.
  • Quick and Painless Collection: The sample collection takes only about 15 minutes and uses safe, non-invasive buccal swabs.
  • Fast Results: Results are available typically within 3-5 days.
What types of paternity tests are available?

We offer comprehensive paternity solutions tailored to your specific timing and legal needs:

  1. Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test (Pre-Paternity Test)

This test can be performed during pregnancy, starting from 7 weeks onwards. It requires only 10 ml of maternal blood and a DNA sample from the alleged father (e.g., blood, hair, nails, or mouth swab). The procedure is completely safe for both the mother and the baby. Results are typically available within 7-14 days.

  2. Legal / Postnatal Paternity Test

This test is performed after the baby is born and uses DNA samples (such as a buccal swab, blood, or hair) from both the child and the alleged father. The results are legally admissible and can be used for purposes such as court cases, immigration, or child custody. Results are typically available within 3-5 days.

What documents are needed to perform a Legal Paternity Test?

To ensure chain-of-custody for court-admissible results, the following documents are required during sample collection:

  • Valid ID or passport of both the father and the mother.
  • Birth certificate of the child.
  • If the child is under 20 years old, the mother (whose name appears on the birth certificate) must be present during the sample collection.
What age can a child be tested in case of post-paternity test?

A child can be tested at any age after birth. We use gentle mouth swabs for collection, making the process safe and painless even for newborns and infants.

How accurate is the Paternity Test result?

Our paternity tests are extremely accurate, with a guaranteed accuracy rate of over 99.9999%. The results are legally binding, and our main laboratory partner takes full legal responsibility for the entire testing and reporting process.

Does the mother need to be tested in a paternity test?

It is possible to perform a DNA Paternity test without testing the mother. However, the results are always more conclusive and statistically stronger if the mother is also included in the testing process, as it helps eliminate her half of the child's DNA.

Which specimen provides the highest accuracy?

All approved specimen types—such as blood, buccal (cheek) swabs, hair, or nails—can provide highly accurate results as long as the samples are collected properly.

However, buccal swabs and blood samples are generally considered the most reliable and preferred specimens for paternity testing because they consistently provide high-quality DNA and are less prone to contamination or degradation. While other specimens can be used, buccal swabs and blood offer the highest level of accuracy and reliability.

Do I need to undergo amniocentesis for the Pre-Paternity Test?

No, our Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test requires only a 10ml maternal blood sampleno amniocentesis or Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) is needed. This ensures the procedure is completely safe for both the mother and the baby, eliminating risks associated with invasive collection methods.

What is Kinship Testing?

Kinship Testing refers to the DNA analysis used to determine the biological relationship between two or more people when direct parent-child testing is not possible. It helps determine how closely individuals are biologically related, such as:

  • Are these two people biological siblings (Full or Half)?
  • Is this person the biological grandparent?
  • Do these individuals share a common ancestor (Avuncular)?

It is commonly used for family verification, immigration cases, inheritance disputes, or personal family tracing.

What types of Kinship Tests are available?

Kinship Testing aims to determine a biological relationship between a child and the alleged father's relatives when the father is unavailable. The available types include:

  • Grandparentage: Tests the relationship between a child and the alleged paternal grandparents.
  • Sibling (Full/Half): Determines if two individuals share the same mother, father, or both.
  • Avuncular: Tests the relationship between a child and an alleged father's brother or sister (aunt or uncle).

Is your lab accredited?

Yes, all our partner laboratories for both pre-paternity and post-paternity testing hold rigorous accreditations:

  • Post-Paternity & Kinship Testing: Our local laboratory is accredited by the Bureau of Laboratory Quality Standards, Ministry of Public Health, under Accreditation No. 1241/56, and is trusted by several leading private hospitals.
  • Pre-Paternity Testing: Our international partner laboratories hold certifications like ISO 13485:2016 for quality management, with tests performed in advanced facilities in China and the United States using state-of-the-art Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology.
What international accreditations do your partner laboratories hold?

Our collaborating laboratories adhere to the highest international standards, including:

  • AABB (formerly American Association of Blood Banks): Required for legal and immigration DNA testing in the USA and many other countries.
  • ISO 17025: A global standard for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories.
  • NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia): Recognizes testing facilities as competent to carry out specific tasks.
  • ASCLD/LAB-International (American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors/Laboratory Accreditation Board): Recognizes laboratories that meet the highest standards of quality assurance.

These accreditations guarantee that the processes, equipment, and staff meet stringent international quality controls.

How long does the specimen collection process take?

We prioritize efficiency and client comfort. The entire specimen collection process at our clinic is quick and convenient, taking only about 15 minutes to complete for all necessary parties.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Genetic testing is generally very accurate, but not always perfect.

  • The accuracy of a test can depend on the specific condition being tested for, the type of test used, and the laboratory performing the test.
  • Genetic testing can't always tell you if you'll develop a disease, how severe it will be, or how it will progress.

In a nutshell, genetic testing can be a valuable tool for understanding genetic risks, but it's crucial to interpret the results cautiously and understand the limitations of the tests, especially for complex conditions. Always consult your doctor for interpretation.

Genetic testing is generally considered safe, especially when involving blood or cheek swab samples, and pose very minimal physical risks. However, there can be emotional, social, and financial implications associated with genetic testing, that should be considered. Always address any concerns with your doctor.

DNA methylation is like a tiny chemical "tag" attached to your DNA that helps control how your genes work. Think of it as a dimmer switch—it can turn genes on or off without changing the actual DNA code. These tags play a big role in normal development, aging, and even diseases like cancer. For example, when methylation goes wrong, it can silence helpful genes (like tumor suppressors) or activate harmful ones. Some DNA tests check these patterns to detect early cancer risk or other health issues. It’s all about how your body reads your genes, not just the genes themselves!

Our list of availability is continuously evolving, please see our booking form, but please find below the main categories of tests available:

  • Hereditary Cancer and Carrier Screening for familial health risks
  • Pharmacogenetics for medication compatibility
Ancestry Insights to uncover your genetic heritage
  • Whole Exome Sequencing for detailed genetic analysis
  • Gut Microbiome Genetic Testing for digestive health insights
  • NIPT/NIPS Screening for baby's gender and genetic abnormalities
  • Pre- and Postnatal Paternity Testing for parental verification
  • VISTA Pre-Pregnancy Genetic Testing for planning a healthy family
  • NIFTY Fetal Genetic Health Assessment for advanced prenatal care
  • Genetic Blueprint Testing to unlock your DNA's potential and identify predispositions
  • COLOTECT Colon Cancer Screening for early detection

We offer two main types of paternity tests:
1. Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test (Pre-Paternity Test)
This test can be performed during pregnancy, starting from 7 weeks onwards. It requires only 10 ml of maternal blood and a DNA sample from the alleged father, which can be collected from blood, hair, nails, or a mouth swab. The procedure is completely safe for both the mother and the baby. Result is available within 7-14 day.

2. Legal / Postnatal Paternity Test
This test is performed after the baby is born and uses DNA samples such as a buccal swab, blood, or hair from both the child and the alleged father. The results from this test are legally admissible and can be used for purposes such as court cases, immigration, or child custody. Result is available within 3-5 day. To perform a legal paternity test, the following documents are needed:

  • Valid ID or passport of both the father and the mother
  • Birth certificate of the child
  • If the child is under 20 years old, the mother (whose name appears on the birth certificate) must be present during the sample collection.
  1. What age can a child be tested in case of post paternity test?
A child can be tested at any age after birth. Using mouth swabs makes the testing of children safe and painless.

Our paternity tests are extremely accurate, with an accuracy rate of over 99.9999%. The results are legally binding and backed by our main laboratory partner, who takes full legal responsibility for the testing and reporting process.

It is possible to perform a DNA Paternity test without testing the mother. However, the results will be more conclusive if the mother is also tested.

All approved specimen types—such as blood, buccal (cheek) swabs, hair, or nails—can provide highly accurate results as long as the samples are collected properly.
However, buccal swabs and blood samples are generally considered the most reliable and preferred specimens for paternity testing because they provide high-quality DNA and are less likely to be contaminated or degraded.
In short, while other specimens like hair or nails can still yield accurate results, blood and buccal swabs offer the highest level of accuracy and reliability.

No, unlike other labs, our test requires only 10ml of maternal bloodno amniocentesis needed, ensuring complete safety for both the mother and the baby.

Kinship refers to the genetic or family relationship between two or more people. In DNA testing, it’s used to determine how closely individuals are biologically related — for example, whether they are parent and child, siblings, grandparents and grandchildren, or other relatives.

  • Kinship tests can help answer questions like:
  • Are these two people biological siblings?
  • Is this person the biological grandparent?
  • Do these individuals share a common ancestor?
  • It’s often used in family verification, immigration cases, inheritance disputes, or personal family tracing.

Yes, our laboratories for both pre-paternity and post-paternity testing are fully accredited.
Our post-paternity and kinship testing laboratory is accredited by the Bureau of Laboratory Quality Standards, Ministry of Public Health, under Accreditation No. 1241/56, and is trusted by several leading private hospitals for DNA analysis services.
Our pre-paternity testing laboratories hold multiple international accreditations, including a Quality Management System certified to ISO 13485:2016 for manufacturing. The tests are performed in advanced facilities located in China and the United States, using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology to ensure the highest accuracy and reliability.

As one of the leading paternity test providers in Bangkok, we serve many clients for both private and legal purposes. The entire specimen collection process at our clinic is quick and convenient — it takes only about 15 minutes to complete.

Genetic disorders arise due to alterations in an individual's genetic material, encompassing their genes and chromosomes. Aneuploidy characterizes a condition where there are either surplus or deficient chromosomes. Trisomy denotes the presence of an extra chromosome, while monosomy signifies the absence of one chromosome. Inherited disorders, conversely, result from genetic changes termed mutations. These disorders comprise conditions like sickle cell disease, cystic fibrosis, Tay-Sachs disease, and numerous others. Typically, for an offspring to be affected by an inherited disorder, both parents must carry the same mutated gene.

Prenatal genetic testing is a medical examination performed during pregnancy to assess the genetic health and development of the fetus. It aims to identify potential genetic abnormalities, chromosomal disorders, or inherited conditions in the unborn child. Prenatal genetic testing offers valuable information to expectant parents and healthcare providers, aiding in making informed decisions about the pregnancy, including choices about the continuation of the pregnancy, preparing for medical interventions, or planning for the care of a child with special needs.

NIPT is a 'Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing for Reliable and Early Answers about Fetal Genetic Health without the Miscarriage Risk of Invasive Procedures. It is an advanced prenatal screening method. This non-invasive DNA test analyzes fetal DNA present in a pregnant woman's blood to provide reliable and early information about the genetic health of the developing fetus. NIFTY is a safer alternative to invasive procedures like amniocentesis, as it carries no risk of miscarriage, making it a valuable tool for assessing genetic conditions in unborn children.

1. Screening Tests: Prenatal screening tests are typically the first step in assessing the risk of a fetus having a genetic disorder. These tests are non-invasive and include options like non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT), maternal serum screening (also known as triple or quad screen), and ultrasound examinations. They provide information about the likelihood of the fetus having certain genetic conditions. If a screening test suggests an increased risk, further diagnostic testing may be recommended.

2. Diagnostic Tests: Prenatal diagnostic tests are more invasive and definitive. They are performed when a screening test indicates a higher risk of a genetic disorder or when there are other indications for a diagnostic assessment. Common diagnostic tests include chorionic villus sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis. These tests directly examine the genetic material of the fetus, providing a definitive diagnosis of genetic conditions, chromosomal abnormalities, or other genetic disorders.

I had a wonderful experience with MedEx, I highly recommend going here! I needed to get several lab tests done and they easily did all of them, and I received the results well before I needed to leave Bangkok in a week! The best part was that I didn't even need to schedule an appointment, I was simply able to walk in, show them the list of tests I wanted, and everything was done in about 30 minutes. Both the receptionist and nurse were very sweet to me, something I especially appreciated since I was nervous about getting my blood drawn. Overall a really great experience that was fast, affordable, and helped give me peace of mind, so thank you!
