Given the recent outbreak of Covid in China with a highly infectious BF.7 variant stemming from the Omicron BA.5 strain, the Indian Government has made it mandatory RT-PCR tests for all arrivals arriving from five countries including; China, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong. Indian Government has undertaken precautionary steps following the 37 million people may have been infected with Covid-19 on a single day this week according to Bloomberg. A report from the National Health Commission of China predicts that by December 20th, nearly 18% of the population, or 248 million people may have contracted Covid-19.

All travelers from these five countries will need to present a negative RT-PCR test certificate conducted 72 hours prior to their flight to India. They also have to fill up details of their travel on the Air Suvidha portal and upload a vaccination certificate or a negative report of an RT-PCR test conducted before arrival to India. In case any passenger arriving from any of these countries tests positive for COVID-19 or is showing symptoms, they will be immediately quarantined. Previously India required a Covid-19 RT PCR Test for not vaccinated arrivals including Children above 6 Yrs and filling up the Air Suvidha form for all international passengers which India discontinued one month ago.
